I’ve been reading through Proverbs, trying to read a chapter a day. Today I read through Proverbs 14, and there were several verses that I thought were great life lessons.
Stay away from foolish people; they have nothing to teach you. Why is a clever person wise? Because he knows what to do. Why is a stupid person foolish? Because he only thinks he knows. Proverbs 14:7-8 (GNT)
RD: Friendships and the counsel you surround yourself with are extremely important. Foolish people have something to teach you, but its something you DO NOT want to learn. A wise person knows what to do. This doesn’t mean he has all the answers all the time, but he knows who to consult and what to do with what he does know or finds out. A foolish person thinks they know what to do, but in reality they have no clue.
People with a hot temper do foolish things; wiser people remain calm. Proverbs 14:17 (GNT)
RD: Don’t let emotions, especially anger, affect your decisions. How many of us have done something foolish because we were not thinking clearly, and allowed our temper or pride to get the best of us? I know I have.
A king’s greatness depends how many people he rules; without them he is nothing. Proverbs 14:28 (GNT)
RD: An colonel once told me, “Take care of your people, and your people will take care of the mission.” Remember, a leader is only as good as his followers.
